I am so thrilled to kick off the first episode of Dope Gal Africa on Sphere Radio – A show set on celebrating and shining light on many underrepresented African female artists – with an all black female mix jam-packed with fun, bold, groovy tunes from some of my favourite artists making waves in the Global music industry and inspiring us along the way: Legends like Sampa the Great, Tems, Mc Yallah, Donia Touglo, Leila Akinyi and more to celebrate their contribution to the Industry and start the show off with a “Dope gal BANG.”
In the last half of the show, My lovely friend, cofounder of the Dope Gal Africa platform and dance partner R3ign Drops, shares some insight on her cute dj journey & musical World followed by a phenomenal guest mix to end the episode.
R3ign Drops picked up Djing late 2019 during our roommate days in Kampala during which I persuaded her to make use of my dj Controller and try mixing. She did (very well) and has since discovered her love for Euphoric meditative afro tech tribal sounds which combined with her mixing skills can send you on a delightful mental and body twisting adventure,Her selections have a dreamy, ancestral vibe that I really enjoy. She already made her debut at last year’s hybrid Nyege Nyege festival in Uganda and was recently featured on Pan African music where she delivered yet another celestial tribal mix. R3ign Drops is also a Journalist, dancer, Poet and recently added music production to her list of many talents after releasing her first teaser on Soundcloud.
