Gute Laune Gold #22: Disco aus der DDR

The disco craze did not pass the GDR by unscathed. Although John Travolta could only dance his way into West German living rooms, the impact of Saturday Night Fever was unmistakable here as well. Even so, disco remained something of a niche phenomenon in the East.

From the mid-1970s onward, discos began springing up across the country, creating a growing demand for danceable homegrown productions—not least because of the 60/40 rule. Yet limited technical resources, ideological reservations, and the overwhelming popularity of Western music meant that only a handful of domestic disco recordings ever found their way onto the AMIGA label.

Max Kinski has unearthed some of these rare tracks and presents them in the 22nd episode of GUTE LAUNE GOLD.
