In the late 1950s, the music industry discovered teenagers and young adults as a new target audience – not least because, in the wake of the economic miracle, they increasingly had access to pocket money and thus became a customer base with significant purchasing power. To spark their interest, the industry needed new, young artists with whom they could identify—and new musical styles like rebellious rock ’n’ roll. With the support of the youth magazine BRAVO, founded in 1956, the first true teen idols emerged. For the 23rd episode of GUTE LAUNE GOLD, Max Kinski has invited Herbert Kubicek (*1946) to provide a first-hand look at this era of musical renewal.
