At the end of the 1950s, rhythm & blues and gospel developed into a new musical genre in American, which produced countless major international hits from the 1960s onwards. Of course, these had to be translated into German in the good tradition of ‘Deutsche Originalaufnahmen’. But the ‘Schlagerszene’ didn’t just produce cover songs, some performers and composers also felt so inspired that they tried their hand at this new genre with their own compositions.
