Island Time #35 with Amuleto Manuela

Today on Island Time – we have a really inventive mix from Amuleto Manuela, bringing us a playful vision of Latin America that challenges our normal contexts of ‘roots’ music.

Amuleto Manuela is an artist and selectora from Colombia, now based in Berlin. In her sets you can expect vintage vinyl from the global south mixed sometimes with field recordings. She will take you to beautiful places, rich stories, complex realities, sharing the “sentimento do mundo” (world feeling) from the global south. Samba, Currulao, Cumbia, Salsa, Charanga, Bolero… She seeks to find meeting sound-spaces where different universes can coexist, where the “other” can be heard, making evident that we are “a culture not of roots but of routes” (Stuart Hall).
She hosts the radio show Gardenia Routes at THF Radio, an independent radio station in Berlin.
