TIME CAPSULE #5 – DJ LYNCE

For this episode, I bring you a much-needed sound collage from
DJ Lynce.

Calling him the most prominent figure in Porto’s nightlife feels limiting
— he’s been deeply involved in everything that makes you step out of your house to hear great music and dance. He played a key role in shaping the city’s underground scene.
Lynce has been around for a long time, always active, always playing. When I arrived in Porto in 2015, he was a regular at those now-legendary illegal basement parties. His sets were intense, energetic — jumping between jungle, acid, and beyond. He was always the one closing the night, the DJ everyone waited for.

His record collection is massive, covering just about everything, and
he plays strictly vinyl. That said, there was this one time (for my birthday) when he pulled off a completely crazy mental set on a pair of ancient CDJs, it was a surprise, I will never forget that one.

A few years ago, he got into production, picking up a bunch of Roland Boutique gear — and, of course, it turned out great. I’ll drop some links in the description.

As for this sound collage, it’s playful, absurd, even dadaist, but don’t let that fool you. There’s a sharp political message woven into it, so listen closely. Enjoy the show, because it’s a good one.
