Crisálida is the term that derives from the metallic-golden coloring found on the pupae of butterflies.
it is the third stage of a butterfly’s life, the phase in which they barely move;
although many butterfly chrysalises do move their segments to produce sounds that scare off predators. here, there’s no difference — it’s a state of latency and embryo,
crisálida waits for something to become defined before she has the courage to break free from the protective shell. until she flies, she hides within, never fully asleep,
cradling herself with cassette tapes and organ chords
as she discovers how and where her voice lies.
