#2 P R E S w/Philipp Rumsch

This episode’s guest is Philipp Rumsch. He’s involved in different projects as a pianist, composer and sound designer.

In this year, he released the second album of his 12-piece-ensemble at Denovali Records, titled „µ: of anxiety and discernment“. During the writing process, Philipp dealt with the theme of „anxiety“ and worked with different kinds of recording techniques, for example binaural recording.

As an inspiration for the music in this episode, we were looking into the Polish Experimental Radio Studio. As one of the first European institutes for experimental and electronic music, the studio was found in 1957 in Poland. At this time, many polish musicians were affected by censorship. That’s what makes it even more impressive, how special and ahead of it’s time the music developed in the PRES sounds.

The polish culture institute Adama Mickiewicza curated a library with samples of different artists involved in the studio. It’s available for free at the Ableton Homepage, and we used several of them for this session.

Furthermore, the music you are about to hear was inspired, amongst others, by pieces from Włodzimierz Kotonski, Eugeniusz Rudnik und Andrzej Dobrowolski.
