Carte Branche #9 with Nadelør

Replay of September’s episode.

In December 2022, I was in the studio with the duo Nadelør, and we recorded this Carte Branche. Unusual percussion instruments, objects, effects (and the creaking of chairs!) come together both with and without the saxophone.

Nadelør consists of the multi-instrumentalist, sound artist, and composer Nime, and the sound, performance, and media artist burgund t brandt. In their live performances, the duo explores acoustic spaces and delves into ideas of electroacoustic and post-serial music in the tradition of musique informelle.

burgund t brandt, also known as Amelie Neumann, is a sound, performance, and media artist based in Leipzig. She creates installations, performances, compositions, and video works that deal with the interplay of visual and auditory perception. She investigates and transforms the intrinsic relationships of the in-between, emphasizing aspects of performative listening. In her work, she dissects the instabilities of human communication and the medium itself. This results in experiences of touch, objecthood, and reflection, with the human body becoming a site where events are perceived as an individual resonant space, along with their consequences.

Nime, alias Jonas Petry, is a multi-instrumentalist, sound artist, and composer based in Leipzig. Besides his solo project Nime, he is part of Gutari, an electroacoustic noise duo with sound artist Davide Luciani, and Welten, an instrumental jazz band. His musical interests lie in the imaginative exploration of sonic possibilities and rhythmic relationships in the living world. His repertoire includes prepared drums, piano, Daf, Tonbak, as well as natural and synthetic sound objects.

Both of them are also organizing the Seanaps Festival this month. Highly recommended!
