The “Carte Branche” (pun on “Carte Blanche”) are informal improv-sessions in the studio of saxophonist Sébastien Branche each time with a guest musician, today Gregor Forbes. There is a bit of playing, either solo or duo, and a bit of talking, in an attempt to give an insight into the musicians’ work.
Gregor Forbes is a pianist and composer from Edinburgh, Scotland, who now lives in Leipzig. He is very active in experimental and improvised music, most notably in the Glasgow Experimental Music Series, which he has directed since 2014. In 2019 Gregor was chosen as the first recipient of the Hans Eisler Haus and City of Leipzig Scholarship, culminating in the world premiere of a new composition at the Gewandhaus Mendelssohn Saal, Musica Nova series. Other recent projects include compositions for the Moholy-Nagy House in Dessau, a composition for Ensemble01 from Chemnitz and collaborations with improvisers in Leipzig.
